ACOUSTIC SOLUTIONS

While the main function of conventional suspended ceilings is to improve the visual outlook of the rooms, hide construction structures, ventilation systems, electrical cables and other underlying eye disturbing devices and, in conjunction with lighting, change the general atmosphere of the room, then the acoustic design deals with moving, directing, mirroring and suppressing sounds, both inside and outside the room. In terms of acoustic design, the sounds in the room are divided into two contrary types: preferable sounds and disturbing ones. Preferred sounds include, for example, a lecturer’s voice in the auditorium or a teacher’s one in classroom, the sounds of music in concert hall or an actor’s voice in the cinema or theater hall. Usually the disturbing sounds are coming from outside the room, although the excessive echo within the room is considered to be an unwanted sound as well.

Acoustic design helps to improve the quality and loudness of preferable sounds and, on the other hand, absorbs unwanted and distracting noise. In a closed space sounds can’t have free movement because of different surfaces surrounding the room, which, depending on the covering materials, reflect or absorb sound waves. Rendering sound reflections and finding the suitable wavelength of echo for each room is one of the main tasks of the acoustic designer.

Although, in some way, regular suspended ceilings change the acoustics of a room as well, most of the acoustic solutions still use specially designed materials for that purpose. For example, the best absorbers of sound waves are the ceiling panels and wall coverings with porous structure. Among the range of products sold by us, these are made of mineral wool (OWA), stone wool (Rockfon) or wood wool (CEWOOD). On the other hand, different wooden and metal surfaces can be used to guide and reflect sounds in the desirable directions for us.
